Holiday Tree-Lighting Celebration Planned
The local Chamber of Commerce and several other community organizations are inviting families to join them for a holiday tree lighting celebration Friday night.
The free event will feature Christmas carols, candy canes and for the first 100 children to arrive, photos with Santa Claus.
Ten outstanding students from San Fernando elementary schools will receive special certificates during the event from chamber officials and will participate in the lighting of the “town tree,” said Joe Sandoval, an event organizer.
“It’s a beautiful, massive tree. It must be at least 60 feet high,” said Sandoval.
“Seven years ago, former City Councilman Sal Ponce donated the tree and had it planted in the median of Brand Boulevard. We’ve been using it ever since.”
The event will begin at 6 p.m. on Brand Boulevard between San Fernando Road and Celis Street.
