Mironov Catches on Quite Quickly
Coach Ron Wilson was still raving about about newly acquired defenseman Dmitri Mironov. Mironov stepped off an airplane Wednesday, spent a quarter of an hour learning the Mighty Ducks’ system, then played a pivotal role in a 2-2 tie with the New York Islanders.
“Once he figures out our system . . . I mean we only spent 15 minutes with him at the chalkboard,” Wilson said. “We’ve got to get him out there learning on the ice in 3-D. He did a pretty good job anyway.”
Mironov, traded to the Ducks from Pittsburgh in a four-player deal Tuesday, will play on the power-play and penalty-killing units. He also will fill the role of physical defenseman that Fredrik Olausson, a power-play specialist who was sent to the Penguins, could not.
