TONIGHT’S GAMES
NONCONFERENCE
* UC IRVINE vs. SAN DIEGO STATE, San Diego Sports Arena
Time--7. Radio--KUCI-FM (88.9).
1995-96 records--UC Irvine 15-12, San Diego State 15-14.
There are so many unknowns with the Irvine basketball team they can’t be sorted out in one game. Can the Anteaters, a team that will use several freshmen, be competitive? Forward Paul Foster, a 6-foot-8 senior, and sophomore point guard Lamarr Parker will need to have strong games. Forward Brian Johnson and guard Juma Jackson, both freshmen, are talented but figure to be erratic until they gain more experience. Which makes San Diego State a good starting point. The Aztecs lost their starting front line--and the team’s top three scorers--from last season. Still, guards Chad Nelson, who averaged 11.6 points, and James Richey, a transfer from Omaha Mesa Junior College, are a formidable pair.
