Grand Jury Reviewing Raiders’ Move

A grand jury is conducting a review of the $200-million deal that brought the Raiders back to Oakland from Los Angeles.

To get the Raiders back, Oakland city officials promised to renovate Oakland Coliseum. The plan was to cover the cost by selling personal seat licenses (PSLs), a new idea in stadium marketing in which fans pay for the right to buy season tickets.

The PSLs did not sell well, opening the possibility of having to turn to taxpayers to cover interest payments on the stadium renovation bonds. That is the reason for the grand jury review.

A bad back has ended the eight-year career of defensive end Jeff Cross, who was released by the Miami Dolphins. He ranks fourth on the Dolphins’ all-time sack list with 59 1/2. . . . Charger rookie receiver Charlie Jones will sit out Sunday’s game at Kansas City because of bruised ribs. Jones initially suffered the injury against Detroit on Nov. 11 and aggravated the injury last Sunday against Tampa Bay.
