Valk Knew What Was Coming

Garry Valk had a pretty good idea what to expect from San Jose enforcer Todd Ewen, a teammate for three seasons in Anaheim before signing with the Sharks during the off-season.

“You always want to make your old team think they made a mistake in not keeping you,” Valk said. “Goal scorers try to get three goals. Enforcers try to run people. I’m sure Todd won’t change his game against us.”

As if on cue, Ewen fought Duck tough guy Ken Baumgartner on his first shift and scored a clear victory 3:04 into the game.

Newly acquired enforcer Shawn Antoski has a strained hip and hasn’t practiced with the team yet. He was scratched Saturday, but did play Wednesday against the New York Islanders one day after he was acquired from Pittsburgh.

Also out of the lineup: defenseman Ruslan Salei and right wing Roman Oksiuta (coach’s decision), Valeri Karpov (post-concussion syndrome) and Jeremy Stevenson (sprained right ankle).
