Budget Deficit

* Obfuscators like Robert Kuttner who find President Clinton’s “low” budget deficits tolerable and praiseworthy (“Harm Behind the Allure of Budget Balance,” Column Left, Nov. 17) are a pain in the butt.

The point is that any deficit, regardless of its size, continues to add to the astronomical national debt. We don’t need “low” deficits. We need surpluses to begin reducing the debt.
