Laker update--Kobe Bryant makes his first visit to his hometown, averaging 5.5 points and 9.3 minutes, fourth-fewest on the team, and shooting 46.2% overall and 57.9% on three-pointers. He has sat out the last two games because of flu, but should play tonight as the Lakers open a three-game Eastern swing (Philadelphia, Boston, Detroit), their second of the opening month. Eddie Jones had a rare off night offensively Sunday against the Houston Rockets--14 points on five-for-14 shooting--but he tied a career high with six steals.
76er update--No. 1 pick Allen Iverson returned Saturday after sitting out three games because of a separated left shoulder and had 26 points, nine assists, nine rebounds and four steals against the New York Knicks. Don MacLean, who signed with the 76ers as a free agent, has sat out the last four games because of tendinitis in his right knee and is not expected to play tonight.
