Plans for 38-Story Skyscraper on Hold
Plans for a proposed 38-story skyscraper in Century City are on hold after Los Angeles City Councilman Michael Feuer voiced his opposition to the project, which he said would have a disastrous effect on Westside traffic.
“The project would have had a negative impact on 43 intersections, 31 of which could not be mitigated,” Feuer said.
Los Angeles-based JMB / Urban Development has proposed building the office complex on a six-acre parking lot on Constellation Boulevard, directly across from the Century City Shopping Center. A spokeswoman for the developer said the company will comment on the situation at a later date.
A coalition of Century City homeowners who have been protesting the project applauded Feuer’s move.
“This kind of development would be a huge disaster,” said Val Cole, president of the California Country Club Homes Assn. in Cheviot Hills. “We would be virtually landlocked by the huge deluge of traffic.”
Sixteen major intersections in the Century City area have severe or extreme congestion, according to an October traffic study by the city.
