Margaret F. Peters; Oxnard Restaurateur
Local restaurateur and part-time pool player Margaret Florence Peters of Ventura died Monday at the Ventura Convalescent Home after a long illness. She was 92.
Peters was born in Warren, Mich., on March 20, 1904.
She moved to the Ventura area in 1946. She and her husband built and ran the San C Motel, service station and Restaurant at the Ventura Freeway and Santa Clara Avenue in Oxnard for many years.
Peters was a devout Catholic whose children say she taught them to be strong and not complain.
In her spare time, she shot pool and dabbled in the penny stock market. She did both extremely well, relatives say.
Peters is survived by two sons, Charles Peters of Ventura and Richard Peters of Santa Rosa, and three daughters, Alaine Whelchel of Ventura, Mary Barrett of San Diego and Gail Mier of Somis. She has 27 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren.
Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday in Our Lady of the Assumption Church in Ventura. Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home at 757 E. Main St., Ventura. Friends may visit between 2 and 7 p.m. Friday.
Following the Mass, Peters will be buried at Santa Clara Cemetery in Oxnard.
