Parity Expected for Regional Matches

After a first round filled with three-game blowouts, the state’s Southern Region semifinals promise more parity, Saturday at 7 p.m.
Division I will be a rematch of the Southern Section Division I-AA final, when second-seeded Laguna Beach hosts Manhattan Beach Mira Costa. Laguna Beach, 23-2, defeated Mira Costa (23-2) last weekend in the section final in five games.
In the other Southern Region Division I semifinal, Fountain Valley, which won the Southern Section Division I-A title, travels to Bakersfield to play Central Section Division I champion Centennial (32-1), which is top-seeded in the region.
In a Division II reginal semifinal, top-seeded Huntington Beach (21-2), the Southern Section Division II-AA champion, hosts Southern Section Division II-A champion Santa Margarita (15-5).
In Division IV, Calvary Chapel (15-4), which upset top-seeded La Jolla The Bishop’s in four games in the first round, plays at Cerritos Valley Christian (17-2). It will be a rematch of the Southern Section Division IV-A final, which Valley Christian won.
The regional finals will be Dec. 3 and the state finals will be at Cal State Fullerton Dec. 7.
