Freeman Gets Lancers Past St. Anthony
BREA — Travis Freeman rushed for 132 yards and scored two touchdowns as Orange Lutheran defeated Long Beach St. Anthony, 21-6, in a Southern Section Division X second-round game at Brea Olinda High School.
Orange Lutheran, which defeated St. Anthony, 52-21, in the regular season, improved its record to 11-1. The Saints finish 8-3.
After both teams punted on their opening drives of the game, Freeman scored on a five yard run with 1 minute 44 seconds left in the first quarter to give the Lancers a 7-0 lead.
The defenses for both teams controlled the second quarter as Orange Lutheran had drives ended by an interception, a punt, and the end of the half.
The Saints’ two drives ended with a punt and on downs.
Less than two minutes into the second half, Mike Crawford caught a 13-yard pass from Nick Odenath to put the Lancers ahead 14-0.
Crawford finished the game with six receptions for 103 yards.
On the next play from scrimmage, after the kickoff, Eric Reese ran 83 yards for a touchdown for St. Anthony. The point-after attempt was blocked.
The Saints stayed in the game until late in the fourth quarter when Freeman scored on a 23-yard run with 1:27 left to seal the victory.
Odenath completed nine of 17 passes for 111 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.
Reese gained 182 yards in 20 carries for St. Anthony.
St. Anthony, in the second half, was forced to punt three times and had two other drives ended on downs.
