Yucca Valley 25, Paraclete 15--James Cunningham ran for two fourth-quarter touchdowns to lift the Trojans in a Division XI quarterfinal game at Yucca Valley.

With Paraclete leading, 15-12, Cunningham capped a 12-play, 65-yard drive by scoring from one yard with 2:57 remaining.

He would later score from three yards after Kevin Lesko intercepted a pass by Paraclete’s Sean Fraser and returned it 15 yards to the Spirits’ 25.

Cunningham ran for 23 yards and scored on the following play to put the game away with 59 seconds remaining.

The Trojans (6-6) rushed for 310 yards, Cunningham finishing with 111 yards in 23 carries.

Yucca Valley’s Darrell Brown opened the scoring with a 65-yard touchdown run in the second quarter for a 6-0 lead.

Paraclete (8-4) got on the board soon afterward, when Cunningham mishandled a punt and was tackled for a 20-yard loss. Dominic Washington gave the Spirits a 7-6 lead when he scored on a one-yard run with 25 seconds left in the first half.

Brown came back with a 33-yard touchdown run nine seconds into the fourth quarter to increase Yucca Valley’s lead to 12-7.

The Spirits responded with Jesse Loa catching a 31-yard touchdown pass from Fraser, and a two-point conversion gave Paraclete a 15-12 lead.
