Richardson Won’t Pooh-Pooh Choice

Guard Pooh Richardson, who has started 152 of 158 games since he was acquired in 1994, wasn’t angry after Coach Bill Fitch replaced him with Darrick Martin in the starting lineup in Friday night’s loss to the Utah Jazz.

“I’ve been in this league a long time,” Richardson said. “If it’s going to help the team win, I’m with it. I just want to win and whatever they ask me to do, I’ll do.

“You got to understand this is my eighth year in the league, I’m rich and I ain’t worrying about nothing. I can adjust, man.”

Being a reserve seemed to help Richardson.

Richardson, who shot 35.5% in 14 games as a starter this season, made four of five shots, including all four three-point shots he attempted, and had 12 points and five assists in 23 minutes.

Kevin Duckworth, benched after starting the first 14 games, had the same attitude as Richardson.

“It’s not a matter of feeling comfortable coming off the bench, it’s what needs to be done,” Duckworth said. “We need to find a spark to get us going because we’re struggling right now. The offense gets stagnant sometimes.”
