Henry Bibby makes his first appearance as USC’s coach after a 0-9 run as interim coach to end last season. Kentucky transfer Rodrick Rhodes also makes his debut. He and guard Stais Boseman will be asked to do much of the scoring, since injuries have depleted the front court. Freshmen Shannon Swillis and Jarvis Turner will sit out because of foot and back injuries, respectively, as will fellow forward Anthony White, who has a shortage of credits. Freshman guard Danny Walker is expected to get a lot of minutes. Long Beach State shot 62% from the field and defeated Wyoming in its season opener Monday, 79-78. Guard James Cotton, last season’s Big West Conference scoring leader, led the 49ers with 24 points. Forward Marcus Johnson, suspended Nov. 4 by Long Beach State officials for his unprovoked attack on forward Corey Saffold, has been reinstated and is expected to play.
