Duck Shots
A weekly update on the Mighty Ducks.
With a full week between a 5-4 victory over Washington and their next game, the Ducks have had a chance to get healthy and focus on getting into a playoff spot, which is not that far off. Here’s a look at what’s ahead.
* Where they stand: 11-16-5 (27 points), sixth in the Pacific Division, 11th in the Western Conference.
* Who’s hot: Paul Kariya and Dmitri Mironov are coming off multiple-point games.
* Who’s not: Kevin Todd, who set high performance standards while the rest of his team was struggling, did not have a point against the Capitals.
UPCOMING
* Tonight, Calgary (7:30, Fox Sports West): Play a strict defensive game and you can pretty much count out the Flames. New Jersey did that last Monday in a 5-0 victory. Calgary would rather play fast and loose. Veteran Theoren Fleury packs a lot of offense (15 goals, 15 assists) and grit (48 penalty minutes) in his little body (5 feet 6). The kids, Jarome Iginla and Jonas Hoglund, make major contributions.
* Monday, Phoenix (7:30, Fox Sports West): Didn’t he used to be the next Bobby Orr? Well, Oleg Tverdovsky will never be the next Orr, but he won’t be the next Greg Joly either. The former Duck, among the league leaders in scoring for defensemen, got his eighth goal of the season against Washington on Tuesday, good enough to be third in scoring (22 points) on the streaky Coyotes, who have won their last three games.
