Chapman Rolls Past Eastern Oregon State
Chapman scored in five innings as the Panthers defeated Eastern Oregon State, 9-2, in baseball Wednesday at Chapman.
Dusty Martin hit a two-out double in the eighth and Cale Shepherd hit a two-out double in the fifth to lead Chapman’s offensive attack.
Jim Brewer gave up three hits in 6 2/3 innings for his fourth victory of the season.
Shawn Tait hit a home run for Eastern Oregon (7-8) in the seventh.
In the Southern California College softball tournament:
Azusa Pacific 7, Southern California College 0--Noelle Sturgill went two for three in the loss for SCC (8-24-1). In an earlier game, Sturgill had two hits in SCC’s 5-1 loss.
In nonconference softball:
Concordia 4-5, George Fox 1-3--Alysa Lopez pitched a three-hitter for a victory in the first game the doubleheader. She was four for six on the day with four RBIs for Concordia (17-13). Lopez (7-5) pitched a complete game, allowing one unearned run. It was her seventh victory in four days.
Long Beach State 2-0, Tennessee 0-1--In the first game, Amy Miner threw her third shutout in the last four starts and a home run by Jessie Martinez gave the 49ers (24-11-1) all they runs they would need. Miner (8-3) allowed three hits and struck out six.
In nonconference men’s volleyball:
Long Beach State 3, Wisconsin Milwaukee 0--Long Beach State’s Chris Walmer had 14 kills finished with the fifth-highest hitting percentage in school history (.778). Gaby Amar led the 49ers (16-6) with 21 kills in their 15-8, 15-10, 15-3 victory.
