Diener’s No-Hitter Is Close to Perfect

Junior pitcher Kim Diener pitched her second no-hitter in as many weeks, striking out four and walking none, in Alemany High’s 5-0 victory over Canyon in a nonleague softball game Wednesday at North Oaks Park in Canyon Country.
Diener (10-3), who was denied a perfect game when the Indians (10-3) made two errors, pitched a no-hitter against Antelope Valley and a one-hitter against Highland last week.
Annette Ramirez hit a grand slam in the fourth inning.
Burroughs 3, Arroyo 0--J.T. Tyler and Malia Sullivan combined on a one-hit shutout for the Indians (8-4) in a nonleague game at Burroughs.
In four innings, Tyler allowed only a leadoff single by Debbie Hoglin in the fourth and she retired nine in row in one stretch. She struck out seven and walked one.
Sullivan came on in the fifth and retired all nine batters she faced, striking out five.
BOYS’ TRACK
Camarillo 99, Simi Valley 62, Royal 9--Rey Coronado, Warren Tittlemeir and Vinnie Johnson each won two events for the Scorpions (4-0, 3-0 in league meets) in a Marmonte League meet at Camarillo.
Coronado clocked 4:32.3 in the 1,600 meters and 9:55.0 in the 3,200.
Tittlemeir put the shot 43 feet 10 inches and threw the discus 141-0 and Johnson ran 11.5 in the 100 and leaped 19-6 1/2 in the long jump.
Kevin Brusca of Camarillo had the best performance of the meet, clearing a personal best of 14-2 in the pole vault.
GIRLS’ TRACK
Simi Valley 64 1/2, Camarillo 55, Royal 50--Shannon Livingston and Ann Marie Turpin each won two events for Simi Valley (3-1, 3-1) in a Marmonte League meet at Camarillo.
Livingston clocked 15.2 in the 100 low hurdles and 48.4 in the 300s and Turpin cleared 5-2 in the high jump and leaped 16-7 1/2 in the long jump.
Camarillo sophomore Heather Sickler cleared a personal best of 11-2 in the pole vault to move closer to the region record of 11-8.
BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL
Bell-Jeff d. La Salle, 15-7, 15-6, 15-9--Marco Flores had 11 kills and 11 aces for the Guards (7-3, 4-0) in a Santa Fe League match at Bell-Jeff.
BOYS’ GOLF
Valencia 361, Canyon 369, Antelope Valley 426--Brad Uptgraft of Valencia shot a 69 at par-61 Vista Valencia Golf Course.
GIRLS’ SWIMMING
Crescenta Valley 96, Glendale 74--Sarah Mahoney, Misty Harlan, Emily Rupp and Kiyun Kim teamed for a record-setting 200-yard freestyle relay for the Falcons (4-0, 1-0) in a Pacific League meet at Crescenta Valley.
The quartet won in 1:47.95, breaking the school record of 1:48.78. Kim also won the 100 and 200 freestyles and swam on the victorious 400 freestyle relay.
BOYS’ SWIMMING
Crescenta Valley 95, Glendale 73--Kenny Carpenter won three events and set a school record of 53.52 in the 100 backstroke for the Falcons (4-0, 1-0) in a Pacific League meet at Crescenta Valley.
Agoura 118, Royal 64--Noah Cirincione set a school record in winning the 50 freestyle in 21.47 for the Chargers (4-1, 3-0) in a Marmonte League meet at Rancho Simi Community Pool.
