Antelope Valley Has Extra Effort
Hector Velez’s sacrifice fly scored Brandon Sadler in the bottom of the eighth inning to give Antelope Valley High a 1-0 victory over Highland in a Golden League baseball game Wednesday at Antelope Valley.
The Antelopes (14-7, 7-0 in league play) received an outstanding pitching performance from senior Jeremy Holiday, who threw a three-hitter, struck out 16 and walked one.
Dan O’Haver scattered eight hits and struck out seven in seven innings for the Bulldogs (8-12, 4-4), who had won five consecutive games.
Palmdale 19, Littlerock 5--J.J. Rosati hit a two-run home run and two doubles, driving in a run, for the Falcons (15-5, 5-3) in a Golden League game at Palmdale that was called when the sprinklers came on in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Kevin Harmon drove in three runs for Palmdale with a double and a triple. Freshman Matt Harrington scattered five hits, struck out six and walked none.
Channel Islands 10, Westlake 9--Charles Merricks’ one-out, one-run single in the seventh inning capped a three-run rally for the Raiders (9-10, 2-7) in a Marmonte League game at Channel Islands.
Merricks’ hit drove in Jared Krehbiel from third. Krehbiel hit a two-run double.
Manuel Romero hit a two-out grand slam to cap a five-run sixth and trim Westlake’s lead to 9-7.
Romero had two hits and drove in five runs. Krehbiel was three for four and drove in three runs. Junior Quintanilla (2-1) allowed one run and two hits in five innings of relief.
Ryan Cope was three for four, including a double and a triple, and drove in three runs for Westlake (12-7, 5-3-1).
Newbury Park 5, Simi Valley 1--Jake Farrel and Ryan Ayers each hit solo home runs for the Panthers (10-11, 2-7) in a Marmonte League game at Newbury Park.
Ryan Shipton had two hits and an RBI for Newbury Park.
Camarillo 15, Agoura 11--Solo home runs by Joe Borchard and Joe Yingling highlighted a 19-hit attack by the Scorpions (18-4, 7-1-1) in a Marmonte League game at Camarillo. Eric Foster was four for four for Camarillo.
Ryan McCann of Agoura (7-12, 3-6) was two for three, including a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Nick Gontmaher was three for four and drove in two runs for the Chargers.
Oakwood 13, Yeshiva 1--Steve Goldfield hit a three-run home run and Nick Kanter (2-0) allowed one hit in five innings for visiting Oakwood in a Liberty League game.
Highland Hall 11, Pacific Christian 9--Jeff Samuels (3-0) struck out four in two innings of relief and contributed a hit for the Eagles (4-5, 4-3) in a Valley League game at Highland Hall.
Jonas Flug-Entin had a double and earned his first save.
