Alviso Sparks the Titans Past San Luis Obispo

Jerome Alviso was five for six with a double and drove in four runs to lead Cal State Fullerton to a 12-5 victory over host Cal Poly San Luis Obispo on Saturday.

Ryan Owens drove in three runs with a bases-loaded double in the first, capping a six-run inning for the Titans.

The Titans went on to record 19 hits and six doubles as they improved their record to 32-19-1, 19-7 in the Big West Conference.

Brian Tokarse, a junior right-hander, gave up five runs on eight hits and struck out 10 for Cal State Fullerton to post his ninth victory. Tokarse gave up six walks, including three in the first.

In other Big West Conference games:

Long Beach State 10, UC Santa Barbara 3--Marcus Jones, formerly an Esperanza standout, gave up two runs on four hits through 7 2/3 innings to post his ninth win for 21st-ranked Long Beach State (33-18), which won its sixth straight game to stay three games ahead of Cal State Fullerton in the South division of the conference.

Toby Sanchez, a former Mater Dei and Rancho Santiago standout, hit his 10th home run of the season with one on in the second for the 49ers.

In the La Verne Leo Tournament:

Chapman 18, UC San Diego 5--Josh Fallon’s grand slam in the second touched off an offensive firestorm for Chapman (25-12), which used eight extra-base hits and 20 hits overall to gain the decisive victory over UC San Diego (17-17) in the first round of the tournament.

The game, held at Chapman’s Hart Park field, was a rematch of a contest last Saturday in which the Triton’s handed the Panthers a 9-3 loss. Chapman leads the season series, 3-2.

Cale Shepherd had a big day for Chapman as well, going four for six, including his seventh home run of the season, with four RBIs and raised his season average to .407.
