Kadafi Defies Flight Ban, Goes to Niger

Libyan leader Moammar Kadafi defied a United Nations ban on flights that was imposed after the 1988 Lockerbie bombing of Pan Am 103 by flying in one of four Boeing 727s to neighboring Niger to lead Muslim prayers. The United States said the flight violated the U.N. ban and that it would “pursue this matter in the U.N. Security Council and in the sanctions committee.”
