Tori Amos is in London working with film composer Patrick Doyle on music for the updated film version of Charles Dickens’ “Great Expectations,” starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Ethan Hawke, Anne Bancroft and Robert De Niro. She’s writing a song with Doyle and will have vocals featured throughout the movie. Both the film and the soundtrack album are due in September. . . .
Luscious Jackson has been asked by the new Women’s National Basketball Assn. to write and perform a theme song for the professional league. The female quartet took its name after former NBA (men’s) star Lucious Jackson. . . .
“Da Da Da,” an early-’80s novelty hit by German group Trio, got a boost after a new Volkswagen TV commercial featuring the song aired at the beginning of the “Ellen” coming-out episode. Several national record store chains reported considerable demand for the track, which, with the group’s Polygram album out of print, is available here only on a volume of the “Sedated in the ‘80s” compilation series.
