Volleyball Players Tran, Wiessner Honored

Granada Hills outside hitter Chris Tran and Chatsworth middle blocker Stephen Wiessner were named boys’ volleyball co-players of the year in the Northwest Valley Conference.
The 5-foot-11 Tran was the kill leader for the Highlanders, who won the City Section 4-A Division championship Friday.
The 6-5 Wiessner was the Chancellors’ kill leader.
Outside hitters Larry Najera of Van Nuys and Elmer Flamenco of Monroe were named co-players of the year in the Mid-Valley League.
Outside hitter Eric Gallarza and setter Joshua Miller of Grant High were named co-players of the year in the East Valley League.
Kelly Mongini, a 6-1 middle blocker from Willows (Calif.) High, has signed a letter of intent to play at Cal Lutheran. Angela Thornton, a 5-11 middle blocker from Vancouver (Wash.) High, also signed with Cal Lutheran.
