Strawberry Begins Rehab Assignment

New York Yankee outfielder Darryl Strawberry, who went on the 15-day disabled list on April 7 because of a knee injury, will start Monday in left field for the Norwich Navigators, the Yankees’ AA farm team. . . Cleveland pitcher Jack McDowell may need arthroscopic surgery on his pitching elbow. “It wouldn’t be anything major,” said McDowell, who is 3-3 with a 5.09 earned run average. “I had an MRI and the elbow is sound. There’s no damage to the joint, ligaments or tendons. . . . Kansas City optioned outfielder Jermaine Dye, bothered by a ankle injury and hitting .188 with two runs batted in, to triple-A Omaha.
