In another Division I wild-card game:
Capistrano Valley 11, Aliso Niguel 0--Rick Currier pitched a four-hitter and struck out 12 for Capistrano Valley (13-12-1), which advances to play Long Beach Poly Friday in the first round at Blair Field.
Capistrano Valley scored early as Mike Currier hit an RBI double. Ryan Brown and Mike Clifton followed with back-to-back home runs. Brown’s homer came with two on and Clifton added a home run to cap a five-run inning that put Capistrano Valley ahead, 5-0.
Rick Currier homered with one on in the second and Ryan Cheo hit a grand slam in the seventh inning.
In Division II wild-card games:
San Clemente 3, Loara 0--James Anderson pitched his third shutout of the season and struck out six for San Clemente (14-12), which advances to play Cerritos Gahr in the first round Friday.
Shawn Tracht, Kris Evans and Marcus Gardner each had an RBI single for San Clemente.
Villa Park 5, Cerritos 3--Ryan Ferguson gave up five hits over six innings and didn’t give up an earned run for Villa Park (13-13). Ferguson also picked off two runners.
Villa Park plays top-seeded El Dorado in the first round Friday.
