After nearly a month of haggling over the contract of ousted City Manager Bill Kirchhoff, the Redondo Beach City Council announced Thursday that it plans to begin payments of his estimated $750,000 severance package immediately.
As part of the package, Kirchhoff will continue to receive his $133,254 annual salary, health benefits and use of a city car and cellular phone for up to three years or until he secures employment. Additionally, the package calls for his home, which was paid for in part by the city, to be sold with about 42% of the proceeds paid to the city and about 58% to Kirchhoff.
Mayor Greg Hill said the city will likely dip into its $30-million general fund to pay for the severance package, which is to be spread out over three years.
