He plans to attend Cal State Fullerton this fall and continue to train on his own. His best time was 10.5 seconds and he won the Southern Section Division II title.

200 meters
Mater Dei, Jr.
He’ll be back as a fullback/linebacker in football and bring his blazing speed with him. He won the Southern Section Division II title. Best time was 21.28w.

ROBERT PEINADO
400 meters
Savanna, Sr.
The county didn’t send a single runner to the state meet in the sprints or at this distance, although Peinado ran a county-best 49.31 seconds this season.

ERIC SOLIZ
800 meters
Costa Mesa, Sr.
The longshot that paid off at the state meet. Finished second in Southern Section Division III race and fifth at the state finals with personal-best 1:54.51.

JASON MANHART
1,600, 3,200 meters
Trabuco Hills, Sr.
Ran strong in Division II qualifying. Continued to impress at the Southern Section finals and Masters, particularly at the shorter distance. Earned state berth in 1,600.

DOMINIQUE DeGRAMMONT
110-meter high hurdles, 300-meter intermediate hurdles
Tustin, Sr.
The national-class prep hurdler ran the second best time in the nation (13.48 seconds) in the 110 with a pulled hamstring and won the state title. Finished fourth in the 300 at state.

TRAVIS VANDROVEC
Pole vault
Fountain Valley, Sr.
Continued to improve right into the state finals. He was Orange County, Sunset League, Southern Section and Masters champion. Sixth in state.

SCOTT MOSER
Shotput, Discus
Huntington Beach, Sr.
Set a state record with a 213-11 mark in the discus and had a school-record 61-10 1/2 in the shotput. Defended state title in the discus, but didn’t qualify for the finals in the shotput.

SHAD VICKERS

The Tillers won the Southern Section Division II title and tied for sixth place at the state meet. Vickers developed the best boys’ relay teams in the county.

ELLIOTT PARKS
High jump
El Toro, Sr.
County record 7-2 at the Southern Section finals. Won Division II title. Sixth at state meet at 6-9. Plans to go on a church mission the next two years.

MICHAEL SMITH
Long jump
El Toro, Sr.
Personal best 22-9 at Southern Section Division II finals. Replaced Parks as team’s No. 1 long jumper at Masters Meet when Parks withdrew with bad back.

Edison, Jr.
In a lean year for county triple-jumpers, Jones led the pack with a mark of 45-8. He should challenge for a state finals berth next season.

Though neither Tustin relay team advanced out of the state preliminaries, each was exciting to watch win the Southern Section Division II title. Best time posted was 41.48.

It was left up to DeGrammont to hold the lead and to Vickers to bring the baton home. They won a Southern Section Division II title, and their best time was 3:18.98.
