Luce Gets League-Leading 10th Win

Pitcher Rob Luce got his California League-leading 10th victory and the JetHawks beat the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes, 4-1, in Rancho Cucamonga on Friday. Luce (10-1) scattered six hits in 6 2/3 innings. Sean Spencer earned his fifth save by retiring all seven batters he faced, including all-star outfielder Gary Mathews Jr. on a deep fly ball with two outs and the bases loaded in the sixth.
The JetHawks (33-35) clung to a 1-0 lead until Chris Dean’s bloop double down the left-field line in the fifth scored two runs. The Quakes fell to 36-32. Keith Davis (3-9) was the losing pitcher.

The California League vs. Carolina League all-star game on Tuesday will be broadcast on radio station AM 1470 in the Antelope Valley. The 5 p.m. PDT game will be hosted by the Durham Bulls. JetHawk pitchers Luce and Dean and third baseman Carlos Villalobos are on the California roster.

Right-hander Brandon Knight (Buena, Ventura College), outfielder Gabe Kapler (Taft, Moorpark College) and first baseman Jon Tucker (Chatsworth) have been selected to the Class-A Florida State League’s All-Star game, which will be played June 21 at Kissimee, Fla.
Knight is 6-4 with a 2.11 ERA for Charlotte; Tucker is hitting .310 with eight homers and 46 RBIs for Vero Beach; and Kapler is hitting .283 with nine homers and 44 RBIs for Lakeland.
