Woodbridge, Sr.
She set the county 100 record at 11.99 seconds and also ran a wind-aided 11.84. Won four events at the Southern Section Division II finals. Her top 200 time was a wind-aided 24.27.
ASHLEY BETHEL
100-meter high hurdles, long jump
Mission Viejo, Jr.
Perhaps the county’s best all-around performer. She competed in three events at the state meet, finishing fourth in the high hurdles, seventh in the long jump and eighth in the high jump.

Warriors finished second in state in Division II and individually he was responsible for the growth of sprinter Jackie Dix, whose times improved each year.

What’s hard to believe about Hebert’s performance this season is that she still has two years left and should improve on her 56.47 clocking, best in the county.
SUMMER SHAW
800 meters
Huntington Beach, Sr.
The Sunset League champion ran an excellent race in state qualifying, but just missed advancing for the finals. Her 2:12.03 was best in the county.
KATIE NUANES
1,600 meters
Santa Margarita, Sr.
She posted a 4:55.96 midway through the season and it stood as the county’s best. Finished sixth at the Masters Meet.
ALLYSON MARQUAND
3,200 meters
University, So.
With two years left, she should improve upon her county-best time of 10:39.17. Qualified for state finals but didn’t advance out of her heat.
SUNNY NICHOLAS
300-meter low hurdles
Sunny Hills, Jr.
She used a 44.58 at the Masters Meet to qualify for the state meet, and nearly made it to the finals. Her county-best time was a wind-aided 44.25.
TAYYIBA HANEEF
High jump
Laguna Hills, Sr.
Never really pushed, she won at 5-9 over a very weak field to become the state champion in Sacramento. Went as high as 5-10 1/2 this season.
M.E. CLAYTON
Triple jump
Newport Harbor, Sr.
Clayton finished second at the Division II qualifying, and went on to qualify for the Masters meet. Had the county’s best mark: 37-4 1/4.
SARAH HIGHAM
Pole vault
Mission Viejo, So.
She set a Division II record, clearing 11-9 in section qualifying and won the Division II title at 11-6. She also placed fifth in the state, clearing 11-4.
CARRIE AXTON

Los Amigos, Sr.
She unleashed a county-best throw of 147-8 midway through the season and eventually finished seventh at the state meet with a toss of 143-9.
JENNY SHUTT
Shotput
Edison, Sr.
When most of the county’s best graduated in 1996, Shutt stepped up to become the leader of the pack, throwing 41-7 and advancing to the state prelims.

Had the best time of any team in the county. Clocked at 47.40. Dix was the best at coming from behind, as she did at the state meet to get the Warriors into a seventh-place tie.

Time: 3:58.38. Megan Bagdonis (Jr.), Misty Weed (Jr.), Joanna Evans (Jr.), Sunny Nicholas (Jr.). The Lancer runners turned in their best time when they finished fifth in the section Division III finals.
