Councilman Gerald N. Sigler has started his one-year term as mayor of Buena Park, taking office during Monday’s City Council meeting.
Sigler, who succeeds Councilman Art Brown, is a retired manufacturing engineer manager and has been a resident of Buena Park for more than 25 years. Councilman Jack W. Mauller will become mayor pro tem.
In other action, council members gave preliminary approval to a zone change for a 15-acre parcel at 6131 Orangethorpe Ave. that houses the regional headquarters of J.C. Penney Co.
“J.C. Penney’s wants the ability to lease out portions of their office building to other users not associated with their business,” said Rick Warsinski, the city’s director of community development.
For that to happen, Warsinski said, the company sought the change in the zoning designation from industrial to commercial manufacturing.
