Muslims Cited in Attacks That Kill 36

Suspected Muslim militants killed at least 36 villagers in two attacks on hamlets southwest of the Algerian capital, news reports said. The overnight attacks--in which some victims’ throats were cut, some were decapitated and others burned alive--occurred after about 50 rebels stormed Si Zoubir, a village about 40 miles from Algiers. After slashing the throats of 24 villagers there, the rebels--dressed as paratroopers, one survivor said--moved to neighboring Douch and slaughtered 12 more people, news reports said.
