Police Plan Talk on Avoiding Theft, Fraud

The Ventura Police Department will hold a seminar for shop owners on how to prevent theft and fraud.
The Thursday seminar is timed to coincide with the coming holiday season, said Cpl. David Wilson.
The seminar will target how to stop shoplifting, check-kiting and credit card fraud.
Wilson is encouraging stores to ask for fingerprints of those paying with checks.
But there are also simpler and less intrusive methods, he said, such as demanding identification and checking signatures when anyone uses a check or credit card.
The seminar is scheduled for 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ventura Police Department, 1425 Dowell Drive. To register, call Wilson at 339-4409.
