A 21-year-old Moorpark man who police suspect was driving drunk was killed late Saturday in an accident on the Moorpark Freeway, authorities said.
Joshua Wayne Bullington was heading north when he lost control of his Ford Mustang about 11:15 p.m. near Olsen Road, authorities said. The car apparently started spinning, was propelled into the air and crossed the center median.
When the Mustang landed in the southbound lane, it was struck by a Jeep Cherokee, Ventura County coroner’s officials said. After the collision, the Jeep landed on its side, injuring the three people inside.
Bullington died instantly from neck injuries, Senior Deputy Coroner Craig Stevens said.
His passenger, Josh Hooper, 20, of Moorpark, suffered major injuries and was taken to Columbia Los Robles Hospital in Thousand Oaks, authorities said. Hooper was listed in serious condition Sunday in the intensive-care unit.
The people in the Jeep were all treated at Columbia Los Robles Hospital and released. They were identified as Michelle Feldman Schipper, 33, and Alan Croft, 23, both of Northridge; and Emily Salway, 22, of Calabasas.
California Highway Patrol officials did not say who was driving the Jeep.
Stevens said it appeared that Bullington was traveling “quite fast” in heavy fog and that alcohol is suspected in the crash.
