NEW YORK — The Statue of Liberty and Liberty Island reopened Monday after water and sewage problems caused a weekend shutdown.
The statue and the island were closed Sunday because water from Jersey City, N.J., had been cut off while new meters were installed, said National Park Service spokesman Manny Strumpf.
The water outage was not related to the sewage problem, which was caused by a blocked pipe, Strumpf said.
