South Pasadena 42, Hoover 20--The Tigers (2-0) used a solid rushing attack to down the Tornadoes (0-2) at Glendale High.
Hoover’s Welser Maltez completed nine of 16 passes for 131 yards and two touchdowns, both to tight end Fredrik Azarian (25 and 10 yards.
Jason Young had 48 yards in 18 carries for Hoover.
Scott Stimpfel threw three touchdown passes in the first half for South Pasadena, which took a 21-0 lead midway in the second quarter. Stimpfel completed six of 10 passes for 153 yards and three touchdowns.
Anteaus Whorton rushed for 120 yards and a touchdown in 10 carries for the Tigers, who gained 223 yards on the ground.
Whorton scored on 61-yard pass from Stimpfel as time expired to give South Pasadena a 28-8 halftime lead.
Whorton’s touchdown run of 20 yards gave the Tigers a 35-14 lead with 5:07 remaining in the third quarter.
