Florida Gains More Ground

While the top 16 teams remained unchanged from a week ago, No. 1 Florida increased its lead over Penn State in the Associated Press’ poll. The Gators received 36 first-place votes and 1,704 points, while Penn State had 25 first-place votes and 1,673 points for second place. UCLA improved from No. 24 to No. 22. . . . Ken-Yon Rambo, Ohio State’s highly touted freshman wide receiver from Long Beach Poly High, was arrested after a fight at a restaurant at about 2:30 a.m. Sunday and was found to be carrying marijuana, police in Columbus, Ohio, said. He posted bail of $110 and was released. After meeting with Rambo, Ohio State’s athletic department decided not to discipline him. . . . Santana Moss, a freshman wide receiver for Miami, was arrested after a fight at a bar in Coral Gables shortly after midnight and was suspended indefinitely by Coach Butch Davis. . . . North Carolina starting quarterback Oscar Davenport was listed as questionable for next weekend’s game at Texas Christian after suffering a knee injury during in the Tar Heels’ 48-20 victory over Virginia on Saturday. Chris Keldorf came on to lead the Tar Heels to three touchdowns in the final 11 minutes, with one coming on a 50-yard pass play. . . . James Knight, 51, the referee who suffered a massive heart attack during the North Carolina game, was clinging to life Sunday.
