“fofo: Echogreco,” a theatrical spectacle based on the legend of Dionysus, features magic, masks, a 12-foot puppet as Dionysus, former Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus clown Matt Walker as Theseus and ex-Cirque du Soleil aerialist Montana Miller as Ariadne. Nope, it’s not for kids--the company recommends ages 18 and up.

After four years of seismic repairs and renovation, UCLA’s venerable Royce Hall reopens with a black-tie gala benefiting the School of the Arts and Architecture. Don Henley leads an all-star band, and Stevie Wonder and Paul Simon are on hand with flutists James and Jeanne Galway and Carol Burnett, John Lithgow and Paul Reiser.

Writers Bloc presents an afternoon of dramatic reading with James Woods, Daniel Stern, Swoosie Kurtz and other actors reading from “Karoo,” the final novel by the late Academy Award winner Steve Tesich, who wrote the screenplays for “Breaking Away” and “The World According to Garp.” Tesich completed “Karoo,” a comedy about a screenwriter, just before his death in 1996.

“America Remembers: Quilting the Twentieth Century,” an exhibit at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library and Museum, offers 30 quilts, including a quilt created for the 1939 New York World’s Fair, the “Oklahoma City Bombing Memorial Quilt” and the tongue-in-cheek “Nightmare for George Bush,” a broccoli-covered quilt. You can even try your hand at quilting, or create a geometric quilt block with colored shapes in a discovery corner.

Bobby Caldwell, the keyboardist who puts the smooth in smooth jazz, leads his beat-minded big band Saturday in the first of four April concerts sponsored by radio station KTWV-FM (94.7), “The Wave.” Upcoming performances include guitarist Doc Powell and saxophonist Michael Paulo on April 11, guitarists Peter White, Craig Chaquico and Marc Antoine on April 18 and keyboardist Keiko Matsui on April 25.

Painters, sculptors, photographers and others exhibit in their studios at the ninth annual Santa Fe Art Colony Open Studio Weekend. Named for its location on Santa Fe Avenue south of downtown L.A., the Santa Fe Art Colony houses 57 art studios in what is a converted robe factory. There will also be food and music.
