Group Launches Campaign to Save Historic Home
In an attempt to save a piece of the city’s history, the Redondo Beach Historical Society tonight will ask the City Council to allow an old Arts and Crafts home to be moved to an area in Dominguez Park where two other old homes have been restored.
The Redondo Beach Unified School District has purchased the home, located near Redondo Union High School, so it would have more room for parking. The district has given the Historical Society until June 1 to move the structure.
Officials with the Historical Society say that the city has reserved a plot in Dominguez Park’s Heritage Court for a third historic home to be restored and they want the Arts and Crafts home to be the one. City officials said they would like to see the house moved to Heritage Park, but the timing is bad: the city is planning to spend $500,000 to make improvements to the park in the next few months.
Councilman Mike Gin said the city will evaluate options to accommodate the group.
The meeting is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Redondo Beach City Hall, 415 Diamond St.
