AROUND THE LEAGUES
Jacob Cruz (Channel Islands High) hoped to begin the season somewhat north of Fresno, on the San Francisco Giants’ roster. But after a poor spring, the right fielder was sent to the Giants’ Pacific Coast League triple-A team, which moved from Phoenix to Fresno. Not that he has anything to prove in the minors. Cruz, 25, batted .361 with 45 doubles, 12 home runs, 95 runs batted in and 18 stolen bases at Phoenix last season. But in 102 major league games, he is batting .216 with three home runs. Cruz went two for seven in his first two games for Fresno.
