Tournament Returns to Palm Springs
The Easter Bowl junior tennis tournament returns to Palm Springs at the Riviera Resort and Racquet Club after a year’s hiatus in Miami. Woodbridge High senior Chase Exon is the highest-seeded county player in the event, which begins this morning and includes 455 of the nation’s top junior players from around the country.
Exon, who has signed with Pepperdine, is seeded eighth in the boys’ 18 singles division. The other two county players in the boys’ 18s are Woodbridge junior David Lingman and Laguna Beach senior Aaron Talarico. San Marino senior Andrew Park is the division’s top-seeded player.
In the girls’ 16s, Mater Dei sophomore Melissa Esmero and Villa Park sophomore Arpi Kojian are entered. Esmero is seeded 14th.
In the girls’ 14s, Alexandra McGoodwin of Newport Beach and Ashley Maddocks of Laguna Beach are seeded 13th and 15th.
The boys’ 16s, which starts Saturday, has only one county participant--La Quinta sophomore Robert Chu. Although Chu is unseeded, he has been playing extremely well as evidenced by his three-set victory last month over Santa Monica’s Nicholas Weiss, the boys’ 16s No. 1-seeded player.
Fullerton’s Patrick Buchanan and Irvine’s Aron Yovan are the two county players competing in the boys’ 14s.
