Resident Involvement Topic of Chick’s Talk
At its meeting Tuesday, the Studio City Residents Assn. will discuss making city government more responsive to the community and plans for a new farmers market.
Councilwoman Laura Chick, whose 3rd Council District encompasses the West Valley, will speak about fostering community involvement as a way to create a more responsive city government, said Tony Lucero, association president.
“She is going to be speaking on programs that she has developed for her own district, which have led to city government being more responsive,” said Lucero, who cited as examples the Neighborhood Codewatch program and the Neighborhood Planning Advisory Council.
In the Codewatch program, citizen volunteers alert city departments about violations of city codes in their neighborhoods. The Neighborhood Planning Advisory Council reviews development projects in their early planning stages and advises Chick on potential problems.
“Hopefully, we can learn from what Councilwoman Chick has successfully applied in her district and use it to better Studio City,” Lucero said.
Marion Kalb, director of Southland Farmers Market Assn., will give a presentation on Studio City’s farmers market, which will begin in late June or early July.
Current plans are for the market to be held from 8 a.m. to noon Sunday mornings on Ventura Place, a short street connecting Ventura and Laurel Canyon boulevards on the northeast corner, he said.
Tuesday’s free public meeting will run from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at Carpenter Avenue Elementary School auditorium, 3909 Carpenter Ave., Studio City.
