Jimmy Stewart’s Star to Be Rededicated Today

As a warmup event to the 17th Annual Jimmy Stewart Relay Marathon, the late movie actor’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame will be rededicated today at a ceremony in which his children will receive replica plaques.

“He never had a ceremony because he was one of the original group to get a star when the Walk of Fame premiered on Feb. 9, 1960,” said Anna Marie Holler of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

The 11 a.m. ceremony will take place on the northeast corner of Hollywood and Vine.

On Sunday, about 5,000 amateur and professional runners and 20,000 spectators are expected to team up to raise funds for Stewart’s favorite charity, the Child and Family Development Center of St. John’s Hospital and Health Center in Santa Monica. Over the years the unique race has raised more than $4 million for the center, which specializes in treating children with developmental disorders and learning disabilities as well as child victims of abuse.

Each member of the five-member teams will run just over 6.5 miles on the course, which begins and ends near the merry-go-round in Griffith Park. The race is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Admission is free.
