Tax to Improve Library Narrowly Approved
A special tax to fund improvements to the city’s library narrowly won the two-thirds voter approval it needed to pass Thursday after additional absentee and provisional ballots were counted from Tuesday’s election.
Measure C passed with 2,389 votes in favor and 1,185 against. The special tax was narrowly failing after most ballots were counted on election night.
The tax will generate $500,000 annually for a second story for the city’s public library, extra hours on Sunday, a new roof, additional books and children’s programs.
The measure will cost homeowners $25 annually and business and apartment complex owners $75 a year.
