LeCocq Proves Most Valuable
Maureen LeCocq of Chaminade High was selected the most valuable pitcher of the Righetti tournament this week.
The junior right-hander was 4-1, including a 1-0 victory over Righetti and all-state pitcher Jocelyn Forest. Her loss was a 1-0 decision to Simi Valley in the championship game, which went 11 innings.
Add honors: Scott Swenson and Tim Feirfeil of L.A. Baptist were selected to the All-Templeton tournament team.
Swenson pitched 2 2/3 innings of one-hit relief, striking out six, in the championship game, an 11-7 loss to King City. He also had three hits in the tournament.
Feirfeil threw a two-hitter in the quarterfinals and scored four runs in the tournament, including the game-winner in the semifinal.
Kudos for Greco: Michelle Greco of Crescenta Valley has been selected Gatorade Circle of Champions girls’ basketball player of the year for California. Greco also was selected to the third team on Parade Magazine’s 22nd annual All-America high school girls’ basketball team.
Greco was among 40 players honored by a panel of coaches, scouts and recruiters. She was the only player from California.
