City Weighs Joining Pro-Airport Group
After a two-week delay, the City Council on Tuesday will again consider joining a group of cities in support of a commercial airport at El Toro Marine Corps Air Station.
The council is being asked to join the Orange County Regional Airport Authority and help make decisions regarding the future use of the base, scheduled to close next year.
Council members delayed a decision April 7, saying they wanted more time to review information presented to them by airport opponents.
By joining with other cities that support the airport plan, the council would give a stronger, united voice to the effort, a city staff report said.
A number of cities have already joined the group, including Anaheim, Costa Mesa, Garden Grove, Cypress, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, Seal Beach, Stanton and Villa Park.
The meeting begins at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers, 401 E. Chapman Ave. Information: (714) 993-8231.
