Braille Institute
* I wish to commend Dana Parsons for his April 1 column. His story about a gentlemen named John Cairns and his blindness is similar to the story of my late wife, Marje Fowler. Macular degeneration had deprived her of most of her eyesight. A musician, scholar and someone in the process of discovering a talent as an artist was devastated.
The Braille Institute in Anaheim, with its staff of wonderful personnel, some of whom were blind themselves, made the difference between total despair and opening new life possibilities for Marje. I will always be grateful for that wonderful therapy. (Unfortunately, she suffered from other illnesses with which her body could not cope. They resulted in her death in January.)
