Boy Hit by Car as He Leaves Ice Cream Truck
A 7-year-old boy was injured Sunday night in Pacoima when he darted into the street after buying an ice cream and was struck by a car, authorities said.
The boy was walking near the 13400 block of Pierce Street when he saw an ice cream truck passing through the neighborhood, said Officer Carl Helm of the LAPD’s Valley Traffic Division.
After buying his ice cream, the boy then ran from the back of the truck into the street and into the path of a car, Helm said. The driver slammed on the brakes but was unable to stop.
The boy was taken to a nearby park and airlifted to Childrens Hospital in Los Angeles, where he received stitches in his scalp and was expected to be released, a hospital spokesman said.
