Gaines, McDowell to Take Oath as Council Members
John Gaines and Kelly McDowell, who both handily won their El Segundo City Council elections last week, will be sworn into office at tonight’s council meeting.
The challengers captured seats on the five-member council over incumbent Jane Waag Friedken. Councilman Liam Weston opted not to seek reelection.
McDowell, a lawyer, received 38% of the vote. Gaines, an aerospace executive, garnered 42%.
The council also is scheduled to select a mayor for the two-year post. Sandra Jacobs, who was elected to the council in 1996, has held the top job for the last two years.
