Snap, crackle and pop: the freshest new clubs of the springtime crop.

Club Cream at Dragonfly on Fridays, 6510 Santa Monica Blvd., Hollywood, (213) 466-6111. DJ Tommy’s been the man about town--from Goldfingers to Martini, he’s been cuing some dance floor action with loads of ‘70s punk, funk and glam rock. He’ll be whipping it up weekly at Cream, which will also feature live local bands. 21 and over, $10 cover.

Confession at Club 7969 on Wednesdays, 7969 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood, (213) 769-5500. Opening last week with a bang (by staging a simulated crucifixion), this dark wave dance club is a naughty Catholic schoolgirl’s dream come true. Comes complete with confessional booths, so purge those sins, ye lads and lasses. 21 and over, $7 cover.

The Edge at the Gotham Club on Fridays, 1431 Third Street Promenade, Santa Monica, (213) 288-2131. A week-old progressive dance club featuring DJ Johnny Love and Aussie Shayne Blaze, the Edge invites all you Westside folks to go off the deep end. 21 and over, $10 cover.

Fat and Jazzy at the Martini Lounge on Mondays, 5657 Melrose Ave., Hollywood, (213) 467-4068. Promoter Dave Rodriguez brings his Miami flavor to Melrose with this acid soul dance club, and in the control booth is DJ Cid, spinning the trippiest of the trip-hop and the hippest of the hip-hop. 21 and over, $5 cover.

Key Club, 9039 Sunset Blvd., West Hollywood, (310) 786-1712. Now that Billboard Live’s gone the way of the Edsel, the Key Club’s making up for lost time, booking Fear (which plays tonight), the return of both Lee Scratch Perry (May 2) and Tenacious D (May 3), Digital Underground (May 29) and the Vandals (June 6). 21 and over, cover varies.

McMurphy’s Tavern, 72 N. Fair Oaks Ave., Pasadena, (626) 666-1445. Six weeks ago, this 5-year-old tavern was purchased by San Diego promoters, which explains the number of excellent S.D. bands now being booked at McMurphy’s (Dial 7 and Kottonmouth Kings tore things up on Tuesday). Look for performances by local and touring artists (at reasonable prices). 21 and over, cover varies.

Scream at the Aftershock on Sundays, 11345 Ventura Blvd., Studio City, (818) 752-9834 or (818) 410-2500. W.S. Productions, the promoters of this Sunday night dance club, should really be ashamed of themselves: milking the name of L.A.’s seminal ‘80s music club (which really was a Scream). No one’s going to confuse the two, since this latest installment is a hip-hop, funk and disco club. 21 and over, $10 cover.
