Water Conservation Officials to Give Away Low-Flush Toilets
Five hundred free low-flush toilets will be distributed to Athens and Inglewood residents today.
The giveaway is scheduled to take place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Kmart parking lot at 11601 S. Western Ave. in Athens.
The toilet giveaway is part of the “Drought-Proof 2000” program, which is designed to lower water bills and prevent water rationing. The toilets use 1.5 gallons of water for each flush compared with five gallons for traditional toilets.
The Southwest Community Assn., which organized the drive, will receive $15 for each old toilet exchanged for a new one. Residents may return old toilets within two weeks.
