Vigilantes Beat Bend Behind Smith
Mike Smith pitched a complete game and struck out 12 as the Vigilantes defeated Bend, 11-2, in a Western League game Friday night at Saddleback College in front of an announced crowd of 1,853.
Smith, the league’s pitcher of the year last year, gave up six hits, walking none, and raised his record to 8-4.
Bend (10-16) took a 1-0 lead in the first inning, but Aaron Mitchell hit a three-run home run as the Vigilantes (12-15) scored four in the bottom of the inning.
The Vigilantes took an 8-1 lead in the bottom of the second when Robert Muro hit a two-run double, Alan Burke hit a sacrifice fly and Kevin Tahan had a run-scoring double.
Kendrick Davis had an RBI double in the seventh and Tahan and Burke each picked up RBIs in the eighth for the Vigilantes.
